The University of Baguio continues to reaffirm its commitment to maintaining a safe and health-conscious learning environment for all students, faculty, and staff through its different campus policies. One of the initiatives the university continues to reinforce every year is its No Smoking and Vaping Policy.
Under this policy, students and staff are prohibited from bringing, using, or selling cigarettes, vapes, and other tobacco-related products within the university premises, including classrooms, offices, food courts, parking areas, and open spaces.
This policy is in line with:
- Baguio City Ordinance No. 34, Series of 2017: Anti-Smoking and Anti-Vaping
- City Council Resolution No. 257 S.2023
- Urging all schools, universities, and other learning institutions in the city of Baguio to strictly implement within their school premises the prohibition and banning of the entry, possession, sale, and use of e-cigarettes pr “vape products.
- CHED Memorandum Order No. 06 Series of 2021: Policy and Guidelines on Anti-Smoking and Tobacco Control
Those found in violation of these policies are subject to disciplinary action, including confiscation of the banned material and sanctions as stated in the student and employee handbooks.
Active policies such as these encourage every UBian to participate in community-wide efforts to maintain a healthier and more responsible campus for everyone. By supporting a smoke-free campus, the University of Baguio not only supports the City of Baguio in its efforts to advocate for a healthier city, but also reinforces its commitment to upholding Sustainable Development Goal No. 3: Good Health and Well-being by allowing every member of the community to thrive in a safe, clean, and health-conscious environment.
