The University of Baguio (UB) Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA) has conducted a trailblazing initiative with the launch of the Baguio-Benguet Quiz Bee titled Ledger Lines: Reconnecting Through Numbers, held at Centennial Hall on September 29, 2025. Created in partnership with the Philippine Institute of Certified Accountants Baguio-Benguet-Mountain Province (PICPA-BBMP), it aims to foster academic excellence, relevant social skills, and professional development among Accountancy Students around the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
Kicking off with the assembly and registration of participants, the much-anticipated Baguio-Benguet Quiz Bee set an exciting tone for the day. Representatives from the Cordillera Career Development College (CCDC), Saint Louis University (SLU), University of Baguio, and University of the Cordilleras were warmly introduced, showcasing the strong academic spirit. Acknowledgement was also given to P&A Grant Thornton and Ramon F. Garcia & Company (Crowe Philippines) for their generous sponsorship, which helped make the event possible.
The competition then moved into the thrilling yet exciting Quiz Bee proper, where contestants battled through easy, average, and difficult rounds before a clincher determined the final list of the top five.
Brilliance and competitive spirit were on full display as participants from different universities vied for the top spot. Leading the winners was Glory Ann Llamas of the University of Baguio, who was hailed as champion, with fellow UB student Vanessa Jade Bunolna earning first place. Enrico Alessandro Tolentino of the University of the Cordilleras came in second, followed by Esther Cuh-ing of UB in third, and Jay Sydney Dulappe of SLU completing the top five.
The competition ended on a high note with the awarding of certificates, celebrating not only the winners but also the hard work and dedication of all participants. This transformative event responds to the values formation of healthy competition and sportsmanship while developing skills and institutional goals.
This academic program strongly reflects the values of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by advancing SDG 4 (Quality Education), as it encourages and develops academic excellence, critical thinking, and lifelong learning among participants. It also supports SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by fostering competitiveness, discipline, and problem-solving skills that prepare students for future professional opportunities. In the same manner, the event also promotes SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by cultivating fairness, integrity, and collaboration in a healthy competitive environment, highlighting the role of education in building responsible and accountable future professionals.
As the host of the event, the University of Baguio showed commitment to providing our students with globally competitive skills, critical thinking, and integrity. More than just a contest, it inspires future-proof professionals who are prepared to make a positive impact in their communities, reflecting UB’s Vision, Mission, and Objectives of nurturing excellence, ethical conduct, and empowered, globally minded students.
