On October 3, 2026, On-The-Job Training (OJT) students, in collaboration with the School, successfully hosted a timely and insightful webinar titled “Oops!… I Shared It Again: Understanding the Data Privacy Act.”
Held via Zoom, the virtual event featured Atty. Johnson D. Lim as its esteemed resource speaker, bringing expert insights sharpened by experience to dissect data privacy in the eyes of the law and equip students with essential knowledge as they navigate both their academic and professional journeys. The webinar was a success, hosting 132 participants. It contributed to the University’s efforts to support the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal No. 4: Quality Education, in preparing students for safe, ethical, and responsible professional practices.
Within his lecture, Atty. Lim made sure every nook and cranny of the Data Privacy Act 2012 (DPA) was thoroughly explored. His session opened with the Act’s purpose, policy, and scope: to protect the fundamental rights to privacy while allowing the legitimate flow of information throughout its life cycle, from collection and storage to use, sharing, retention, blocking, erasure, and destruction. To break these legal provisions down, Atty. Lim discussed real-life cases revolving around the three data privacy principles: transparency, legitimate purpose, and proportionality. Through these examples, attendees gained a deeper understanding of how the law applies in professional and organizational settings.
After the lecture’s conclusion, an engaging open question and answer session was held, allowing participants to raise pressing questions, clarify legal nuances, and receive expert advice directly from Atty. Lim. To conclude the program, a certificate of appreciation was presented to him, alongside certificates of recognition for the active attendees.
