The University of Baguio – Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (UB-JPIA) once again demonstrated that excellence extends beyond academics as its members showcased their gaming skills during the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Tournament held virtually on June 4 and June 6, 2026, as part of the celebration of the Annual Regional Convention. Competing against various teams from across the region, the UB-JPIA representatives displayed teamwork, strategy, and determination throughout the competition.

Representing the organization was the team “Magpatalo Kayo Plsss,” composed of dedicated UBJPIANs from the second year and fourth year levels: Rafie Cancan, Jonn Carlo Caluza, Ryan Guerrero, Brylle Padaoan, Aileen Basug, John Lomer Gacutan, and Aileen Joy Basug. Through effective communication and strong in-game coordination, the team successfully advanced through the tournament brackets, earning recognition for their outstanding performance.

The team’s journey was highlighted by an impressive showing in the battle for bronze, where they dominated their opponents and secured a decisive victory. Their exceptional gameplay and perseverance ultimately earned them the title of Second Runner-Up, bringing pride and honor to the University of Baguio and the UB-JPIA community.

Beyond the team’s impressive achievement, their participation in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Tournament contributed to the advancement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education by promoting the development of critical thinking, strategic decision-making, communication, and problem-solving skills. Competitive esports requires participants to analyze situations quickly, adapt to changing circumstances, and work collaboratively under pressure, all of which are valuable competencies that complement students’ academic and personal growth.

The tournament also supported SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being by providing students with a recreational platform that encourages positive social interaction, stress relief, and healthy competition. Through esports, participants were able to engage in an activity that fostered mental resilience, discipline, and sportsmanship while maintaining a balanced student life.

Furthermore, the event aligned with SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through the collaboration among NFJPIA regional chapters and participating local organizations. The Annual Regional Convention served as a venue for students from different institutions to connect, exchange experiences, and build meaningful relationships beyond geographical boundaries. Such partnerships strengthen the student community and create opportunities for future collaboration, learning, and professional development.

Through their outstanding performance and active participation, Team “Magpatalo Kayo Plsss” not only brought pride to the University of Baguio and UB-JPIA but also exemplified how extracurricular activities can contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals while fostering excellence, teamwork, and camaraderie among future accounting professionals.
