The University of Baguio High School (UBHS) successfully concluded the two-day launch of the S.A.F.E. UBHS Campaign, bringing together over 2,000 learners through scheduled batches for an important and timely campaign focused on child protection, anti-bullying, cyber safety, responsible social media use, and community preparedness.
More than simply a launching activity, the campaign served as a meaningful platform for learners to gain knowledge, reflect on their responsibilities, and recognize their role in creating a safer and more respectful school community.
What Does S.A.F.E UBHS Mean?
The S.A.F.E. UBHS Campaign represents four important values that every learner can practice in school and beyond: Speak Up, Act Responsibly, Foster Respect, and Empower Others.
The campaign was conducted in support of the existing Child Protection Policy of the University of Baguio, emphasizing that child protection is a shared responsibility.
In coordination with the Baguio City Police Office, the resource speakers engaged learners in discussions on bullying, cyberbullying, cybercrime, applicable laws and ordinances, accountability, and responsible reporting.
The sessions highlighted that bullying and harmful online behavior should never be ignored or normalized. Learners were encouraged to understand the consequences of their actions, recognize situations that may put others at risk, and seek appropriate help when necessary.
The discussions also reinforced the importance of thinking before posting, sharing, commenting, or interacting online. In an increasingly digital world, responsible social media use is an essential part of becoming a responsible member of the community.
Preparing Learners for Active Threats
An important component of the campaign was the discussion on active-threat preparedness. Learners were provided with guidance on how to respond appropriately and prioritize safety during potentially dangerous situations.
This discussion emphasized the importance of remaining alert, knowing how to respond during an emergency, following established safety procedures, and making informed decisions when faced with a threat.
By equipping learners with practical knowledge, the campaign strengthened not only awareness but also their preparedness to respond responsibly during critical situations.
With over 2,000 UBHS learners participating, the campaign created a significant opportunity to reach the school community with one unified message: everyone has a role in building a safe environment.
The impact of the campaign goes beyond the number of attendees. Its success can be seen in the awareness it generated, the conversations it encouraged, and the responsibility it instilled among learners.
The campaign reminds every UBian that creating a safe school does not depend on one person, one office, or one program. It requires the collective effort of learners, teachers, staff, administrators, families, and community partners.
The Launching Is Over, But the Mission Continues
The successful completion of the S.A.F.E. UBHS Campaign launching is not the end of the journey. It is only the beginning.
The true measure of the campaign will be reflected in what happens after the sessions—in how learners treat one another, how they respond to bullying, how responsibly they use social media, how they report concerns, and how they stand up for others.
The lessons shared during the two-day launching are calls to action for every UBian. By turning awareness into everyday actions, learners can help create a school environment where everyone feels heard, respected, protected, and valued. Through collective responsibility, kindness, and courage, the S.A.F.E. UBHS vision can become a lasting part of the school community.
Because a S.A.F.E. UBHS begins with each one of us.
The S.A.F.E. UBHS Campaign also contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by promoting a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment. The campaign particularly supports SDG 4: Quality Education, by helping learners develop knowledge, values, and skills that promote responsible and respectful participation in school and society; SDG 5: Gender Equality, by promoting a culture free from bullying, discrimination, harassment, and harmful behavior; and SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, by encouraging accountability, responsible reporting, respect for others, and peaceful resolution of concerns.
Through these efforts, UBHS strengthens its commitment to developing empowered learners who can contribute to safer schools and more resilient communities.
