The University of Baguio Laboratory Elementary School (UBLES) proudly announces that two of its Grade 6 learners, Ian Jace C. Botis and Queen Sarah P. Salo, have qualified among 53 schools as the official Top 21 qualifiers of the Philippine Science High School – Cordillera Administrative Region Campus (PSHS-CARC) Sci-Math Battle 2026. They will advance to the Regional Eliminations at SM City Baguio, Baguio City, on October 24, 2026.

Organized by PSHS-CARC under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), the Sci-Math Battle gathers learners from across the Cordillera region to showcase their critical thinking and problem-solving skills in science and mathematics. With only 21 qualifiers advancing, Ian and Queen’s achievement is a significant milestone for UBLES.
Their participation supports the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
- SDG 4 – Quality Education: through academic competitions that promote excellence in science and mathematics.
- SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure: by encouraging scientific thinking and problem-solving among young learners.
- SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals: through collaboration among UBLES, PSHS-CARC, teachers, and families.
Through these initiatives, UBLES continues to transform, help, and empower learners to become active contributors to a sustainable and thriving community.
Summary of Achievement
Ian and Queen were coached by Keanwort Ambros, Grade 6 Mathematics teacher, whose dedication and mentorship were instrumental in their preparation. This year’s theme, “All Roads Now Lead to the City of Pines,” reflects how qualifiers from across the region are now headed to Baguio City for the next stage of the competition.
Acknowledgment of Participants and Partners
UBLES extends its heartfelt gratitude to PSHS-CARC and DOST for organizing the Sci-Math Battle, to the UBLES faculty and staff, and especially to the parents and guardians whose support made this achievement possible.

The qualification of Ian Jace C. Botis and Queen Sarah P. Salo is more than a personal victory. It is a source of pride for the entire UBLES community. Through hard work, discipline, and a love for learning, they have shown that preparation and perseverance open doors to greater opportunities.
