“The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.”

– Robert Swan

The School of International Hospitality and Tourism Management proudly celebrates a noteworthy milestone with its initiative, “Roll up your sleeves: Yes, I can green S.W.I.T.C.H!” A remarkable total of 969 dedicated SIHTM student volunteers have wholeheartedly embraced the program, exemplifying their unwavering commitment to fostering positive change. Not confining their efforts solely to Baguio City, these enthusiastic students have extended their reach to diverse locations.

Their engagement transcends geographical boundaries, with active participation in their respective Barangay’s outreach programs and proactive organization of such initiatives. Many students are also involved in various private organizations that share similar goals, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to endeavors that enhance their awareness and deepen their understanding of the communities they inhabit.

This program aligns with key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically:

SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities

SDG 13: Climate Action

SDG 17: Partnership for the Goals

The student volunteers have immersed themselves in a spectrum of community initiatives, encompassing tree planting, plogging (a blend of fitness and environmental stewardship), Barangay clean-up drives, coastal clean-up activities, children’s reading sessions (Pagbasa-SLES Learners), weeding, park beautification, assistance to senior citizens and children, and distribution of school supplies.

As this impactful program persists, the School of IHTM remains steadfast in its commitment to sustain this initiative. The dedication of the students involved ripples back positively to both the community and the environment, creating a lasting and meaningful impact.
