In a powerful reaffirmation of a successful and sustained commitment to public health, the University of Baguio (UB) once again collaborated with the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Baguio Chapter for the “Dugong UB” Blood Donation Drive. Held on Friday, November 28, 2025, the half-day event saw a remarkable community response, running efficiently from 8:00 AM to 12:00 NN at the ground floor of the UB Multi-level Parking. True to its legacy of dedicated service, the partnership delivered a collective contribution of 112 life-saving units of blood, a triumphant outcome that will significantly bolster the regional blood supply.
Partnership as a Policy for Sustained Impact
he sheer magnitude and efficiency of the Dugong UB drive are testaments to the institution’s long-standing relationship with the PRC Baguio Chapter https://www.facebook.com/philredcrossbaguio. This recurrent event is not merely a sporadic outreach program but a key component of UB’s institutional policy on cross-sectoral collaboration, an endeavor where the University of Baguio consistently “did it again” for the community. This enduring collaboration, which began over two decades ago, has made UB a perennial Hall of Fame partner of the PRC, cementing its role as a steadfast contributor to regional blood security.
The successful event was coordinated by the School of Natural Sciences (SNS), which provided essential logistics and mobilized campus participation. Crucially, the School of Natural Sciences (SNS) and the School of Nursing (SON) deployed its faculty and students, integrating the drive into their curriculum by having students manage pre-screening, conduct professional health assessments, blood collection, and administer post-donation care. This synergy between academic theory and community practice reinforced the quality of education at UB while ensuring the rigorous standards of the PRC were met.
For four focused hours, the Multi-level Parking transformed into a vibrant donation center. The established system, refined over years of partnership, allowed for smooth donor processing, from registration and meticulous health interviews to the actual blood collection. The 112 units collected in such a short time frame highlighted the readiness and generosity of the UB community, proving the reliability of the university as a consistent partner in health emergencies.

Advancing Global Goals: SDG 3 and SDG 17
The success of the Dugong UB drive is critical evidence of UB’s dedication to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Primarily, the event directly addressed SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being by ensuring access to safe and affordable blood transfusions. Every unit collected contributes to the goal of achieving Universal Health Coverage (Target 3.8), providing a readily available medical resource essential for mitigating risks during childbirth, treating trauma, and managing chronic conditions across the region. Beyond the immediate need, this commitment addresses local health disparities by ensuring that all sectors of the Baguio and Cordillera community have equitable access to safe and affordable blood for life-saving procedures.
More significantly, the decades-long, successful execution of the Dugong UB series https://sdg.ubaguio.edu/the-university-of-baguio-a-blood-donation-hall-of-famer-for-22-years exemplifies the highest form of SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. The continued and reliable engagement between UB and the PRC is a clear display of sustained and effective cross-sectoral dialogue and collaboration for social policy implementation. This annual activity proves that the university’s commitment extends beyond policy publication into consistent, high-impact programming that yields tangible benefits for the wider community.
The collection of 112 units on November 28, 2025, not only saved potential lives but also solidified the University of Baguio’s reputation as a steadfast pillar of public service, ready to act as a reliable partner in promoting health and welfare. The Dugong UB drive was, once again, a monumental success.
