In line with its continuous pursuit of academic excellence, inclusivity, and global competitiveness, the University of Baguio Science High School (UBSHS) successfully conducted its Mid-Year In–Service Training (INSET) for Teachers and Staff from January 5 to 7, 2026, carrying the theme “Empowering Every Learner: Integrating Curriculum Alignment, Differentiated Strategies, and Inclusive Practices for Effective Teaching.”

The three-day training served not only as a venue for professional development but also as a strategic response to accreditation requirements, reinforcing UBSHS’s commitment to meeting and sustaining institutional, national, and international quality assurance standards. The sessions were deliberately aligned to strengthen instructional systems, documentation, and classroom practices that are essential indicators in accreditation processes, particularly in curriculum coherence, learner support mechanisms, and inclusive education frameworks.

Distinguished speakers led the training with discussions anchored on quality assurance and learner-centered education. Dr. Roselle G. Aniceto emphasized curriculum alignment as a critical component in accreditation, highlighting the importance of consistency among learning outcomes, teaching strategies, and assessment tools. Her discussion underscored how well-aligned curricula contribute to measurable learning outcomes, data-driven instruction, and evidence-based practices—key elements evaluated during accreditation visits.

Focusing on classroom-level implementation, Ms. Mary-Ann N. Daculog discussed differentiated instructional strategies that respond to diverse learner profiles while maintaining academic rigor. She emphasized that differentiated instruction supports accreditation standards by ensuring equitable access to learning and by providing concrete evidence of responsive teaching practices that address students’ varying abilities, interests, and learning paces.

A significant highlight of the INSET was the emphasis on Inclusive Education, led by Ms. Onada Pauline, who underscored the role of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) in empowering learners with additional needs. The session clarified the process of designing, implementing, and monitoring IEPs as structured interventions that ensure learners receive appropriate accommodations, modifications, and support services. Teachers were guided on aligning IEPs with curriculum goals and assessment standards, making inclusive practices both systematic and accountable, an essential consideration in accreditation and quality assurance.

Reinforcing the objectives of the training, UBSHS Principal Dr. Thea P. Suaco emphasized that continuous professional development is crucial in enhancing the quality of Science High School education. She highlighted the importance of sustaining improvements that respond to accreditation feedback while proactively preparing the school to keep pace with emerging educational standards at the institutional, national, and international levels. Her message called on teachers and staff to view accreditation not merely as compliance, but as a pathway toward continuous improvement and excellence.

Aligned with global development priorities, the Mid-Year INSET strongly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, which promotes inclusive, equitable, and quality education, and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, which advocates for inclusive systems that address diverse learner needs. The integration of curriculum alignment, differentiated strategies, and IEP-driven inclusive practices reflects UBSHS’s commitment to advancing these goals within its educational framework.

As UB Science High School continues its journey toward excellence, the Mid-Year INSET 2026 stands as a concrete manifestation of its dedication to accreditation readiness, inclusive education, and learner empowerment, ensuring that every student is supported to achieve their fullest potential in a dynamic and globally competitive learning environment.
