The University of Baguio Supreme Student Council (UB SSC), in collaboration with FPOP Baguio–Benguet and Project KKK Community Initiatives, successfully held an HIV Awareness program, ARUBAYAN 8: SALAKNIB – Health Without Fear as part of its efforts to support a sustainable, stigma-free community. The event was held at the FGB Hall of the University of Baguio, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 NN. With almost 70 students and student leaders in attendance, the event became a safe space where learning, honesty, and empathy came together. ARUBAYAN 8 had a powerful goal to call the UB community for health conversations, which should never be driven by fear, shame, or silence. Through open discussions and shared experiences, the activity encouraged participants to confront misconceptions and stigma surrounding HIV, psycho-social support, and teenage pregnancy, while promoting understanding, responsibility, and compassion. It created an environment where questions were welcomed, voices were heard, and learning felt personal and real.
The impact of the event was felt immediately among the participants, who left the hall more informed, more aware, and more confident to engage in conversations that are often considered difficult or uncomfortable. Beyond those present, the knowledge shared during ARUBAYAN 8 continues to reach peers, families, and communities, as participants carry these lessons forward and become advocates for awareness and support in their own circles.

The success of the initiative was made possible by the invaluable contributions of its resource speakers. Mx. Paul Brian Tulioc Baldoza led an engaging and grounded discussion on HIV 101 and Community Psycho-social Support, helping participants understand the realities behind the stigma and the importance of compassion in community care.
Mx. Sylvester C. Anamong followed with an empowering session on Teenage Pregnancy, reminding the youth that informed choices, education, and support systems play a vital role in shaping healthier futures. Their insights resonated deeply sparking meaningful reflection and dialogue among attendees. ARUBAYAN 8 also stood as a testament to the strength of collaboration. Through the partnership between the UB SSC, FPOP Baguio–Benguet, and Project KKK Community Initiatives, the activity showed how shared advocacy and collective action can create lasting impact. These partnerships ensure that the conversations started during the event do not end there, but continue through future programs and sustained community engagement.

Building a stigma-free community towards a sustainable future
Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the initiative supports SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by promoting health education and stigma reduction, SDG 4 (Quality Education) through accessible and meaningful learning, SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by fostering safe spaces for dialogue, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through strong institutional and community collaboration. More than an advocacy event, ARUBAYAN 8: SALAKNIB – Health Without Fear reminded students that change begins when people feel safe enough to learn, speak, and care. As the UB SSC continues to lead initiatives that uplift and protect the community, this event stands as proof that when we choose understanding over fear, we move closer to a healthier, kinder, and more united UB community.
