The Student-Exchange and Cultural Immersion Program in Thailand provided an extraordinary opportunity for him to grow professionally and personally, while fostering cross-cultural understanding and contributing meaningfully to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Through teaching English and engaging with local students and teachers, he supported SDG 4: Quality Education by promoting inclusive learning opportunities. By interacting with students and communities from diverse backgrounds, he contributed to SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, helping bridge educational and cultural gaps. Finally, the collaboration between his home university and Thai institutions reflected SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, showing how international partnerships can create meaningful learning experiences and mutual growth.

A memorable moment during the internship in Thailand, exploring the surroundings while gaining valuable experiences and cultural insights.

As someone who had always wanted to connect with people beyond Philippine borders, his participation in the Cross-Border Academic Mobility Program was especially meaningful. Thailand had long been his dream destination in Southeast Asia, and he was fortunate enough to experience not only its culture but also its people and way of life.

During his stay in Khon Kaen, he was given the opportunity to teach English to learners of different ages through classroom instruction at Phon Commercial and Technical College, Krasae Pattana School, the College of Asian Scholars, and various schools across Phon City. He also had the privilege of conducting a two-day seminar for English teachers in the area. These experiences allowed him to apply the knowledge and skills he had gained from his four years of training under the BA English Language program at the University of Baguio. As the only BA English Language student from the university participating in the program, he viewed the experience as a reflection of the education and preparation he received from his home institution.

Beyond teaching, what left the deepest impact on him were the experiences outside the classroom. One of his most memorable moments was visiting the homes of students from the middle school where he taught. He was able to observe their daily lives, learn about their families’ livelihoods, such as basket weaving and fire ant farming, and gain a better understanding of the realities they face. Seeing how these students balanced their studies while helping their families after school humbled him and gave him a greater appreciation for their perseverance and dedication.

Another highlight of his stay was the connection he built with the local community. Aside from the teachers and students he worked with, he was welcomed by many people in his everyday interactions. Simple acts of kindness from community members and shop owners made him feel at home despite being far from his own country. Because of these connections, saying goodbye became one of the most difficult parts of the experience. The memories, lessons, and relationships he gained in Thailand will always hold a special place in his heart.

Through cultural exchange, education, and community engagement, the program demonstrated how international partnerships can contribute to personal development, social impact, and global understanding, all while aligning with the SDGs in practice.
