On November 22, 2024 the University of Baguio Laboratory Elementary School (UBLES) continued its unwavering support for the Barangay Pagbasa Program, an initiative by the Department of Education (DepEd) directed to barangays of Baguio City. It aimed to enhance literacy skills in local communities, particularly the recipients of Barangay Salud Mitra, aligning it with the sustainable development goal or SDG 4: Quality Education. The latest session, held in UBLES saw ten enthusiastic young participants benefit from the program’s comprehensive approach to reading and literacy.
The reading program was expertly facilitated by dedicated teachers and student teachers from the University of Baguio handled by Dr. Elmer C. Eligio, supervising instructor of field study 1. The sessions focused on improving reading comprehension, writing, and speaking skills. The interactive activities and personalized attention helped the participants make significant strides in their literacy journey.

This event marked the first participation of the student teachers in the Barangay Pagbasa Program. Their involvement was met with great enthusiasm and proved to be a rewarding experience. They expressed immense satisfaction in contributing to the community and witnessing firsthand the positive impact of their efforts on the young learners.

UBLES remains committed to supporting DEPED’s literacy initiatives, recognizing the crucial role of education in empowering communities. The school’s continuous involvement in the Barangay Pagbasa Program underscores its dedication to fostering a love for learning and ensuring that quality education is accessible to all.
