In line with the Department of Education‘s (DepEd) efforts to strengthen the Matatag Curriculum, the University of Baguio Laboratory Elementary School (UBLES) Outreach Program has launched a reading and numeracy program at Doña Nicasia Elementary School. This program, which is aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG11 Sustainable Cities and Communities, with its tagline “No Child Left Behind,” aims to provide learners with a solid foundation in reading and numeracy, essential skills that will enable them to succeed in their academic pursuits and beyond.

The UBLES Outreach Program, in partnership with Doña Nicasia Elementary School, has designed and implemented a comprehensive and engaging curriculum to support the school’s learners. According to the assistant principal, Mrs. Alicia Rivera “Our goal is to provide support to the school and its learners, and to help bridge the gap in education.” The program’s reading component focuses on developing learners’ phonemic awareness, fluency, and comprehension skills, while the numeracy component emphasizes the development of learners’ problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and mathematical literacy. UBLES faculty members led by Mrs. Diana Lyn G. Tamayo, UBLES Outreach Coordinator have volunteered their time and expertise to support the program. Doña Nicasia Elementary School principal namely Mrs. Octavia Pedro and Mrs. April Pascua Outreach Coordinator have also expressed their gratitude for the support provided by the UBLES Outreach Program. Since its launch, the program has shown promising results, with learners demonstrating significant participation in their reading and numeracy skills.

The UBLES Outreach Program’s reading and numeracy program at Doña Nicasia Elementary School serves as a model for other outreach initiatives, demonstrating the power of collaborative effort and community support in enhancing learner outcomes and promoting inclusive and equitable education. “No Child Left Behind” indeed, as the UBLES Outreach Program and Doña Nicasia Elementary School work together to empower young minds and create a brighter future for all.
