Two dedicated teachers from the University of Baguio High School (UBHS), Ms. Jubilyn Kiing and Ms. Rowena Severo, joined fellow educators in a vital learning advocacy initiative during the Climate Change and Human Rights Education Forum held on June 21, 2025, at Saint Louis University – Gonzaga Campus, Baguio City.
Organized by CEAP-CAR and the Baguio City Association of Private Schools (BCAPS), the forum brought together teachers from private institutions across Baguio to strengthen their understanding and role in addressing two urgent global concerns: climate change and human rights.
The event featured insightful presentations on the Rationale of Climate Change and Human Rights by Sr. Teresa Dagdag, timely and valuable updates on Climate Change in the Philippine Setting offering localized insights and data that underscored the urgency of action, especially in vulnerable communities by Ms. Ma. Victoria Bautista, and a compelling session on Human Rights Advocacy reminding educators of their critical role in upholding and instilling human rights values in young learners by Mrs. Annie Marie B. Caguioa.
Equally impactful was the collaborative discussion facilitated by Mrs. Michelle L. Bandao-Basilio and Mr. Bren Justin T. Fajardo, who presented strategies and sample learning plans that participants could adopt or adapt, integrating climate awareness and human rights consciousness into classroom instruction.
The seminar culminated in an open forum that encouraged dialogue and the sharing of innovative practices. Educators left with a strong, shared conviction: climate change and human rights are essential to classroom instruction. They voiced firm support for their integration, affirming the vital role of education in preparing learners to meet today’s global challenges.
For Ms. Kiing and Ms. Severo, the experience was both enlightening and empowering. They committed to embedding climate justice and human rights into their learning plans and to supporting sustainability-driven initiatives within the UBHS community.

Teachers explored the urgency for integrating climate justice and human rights education in schools. As emphasized during the session, “The Climate Crisis is a Human Rights Crisis” is a powerful reminder of the role educators play in championing a whole-school approach to sustainability and advocacy.
The engagement of UBHS educators reflects the University of Baguio’s strong commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, and SDG 13: Climate Action. Through programs like this, UBHS continues to shape learners into responsible, informed, and empowered global citizens capable of shaping a more sustainable and just future.
