The University of Baguio School of Information Technology (SIT) officially welcomed students back to campus through its General Assembly and Orientation 2025 on September 3, 2025. The morning session, held at the UB Gym, focused on the dissemination of programs, services, policies, and procedures of the student support offices. The afternoon was devoted to presentations on Risk Management, the International Summer Work program, and program-specific breakout sessions in the FGB Hall and Centennial Hall.

Students from BS Information Technology (BSIT), BS Computer Science (BSCS), BS Computer Engineering (BSCpE), and Associate in Computer Technology (ACT) programs participated in the whole-day orientation aimed at preparing them for academic success, personal development, and future career opportunities. A total of 703 students attended the event, with 424 from BSIT, 141 from BSCS, 123 from BSCpE, and 15 from ACT, showing the strong turnout and active involvement of learners across all SIT programs.

Morning Program: University and Student Services

The assembly featured a comprehensive lineup of topics and presentations from key student support offices and partner units. These included the services of the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), Center for Counseling and Student Development (CCSD), Medical and Dental Clinic (MDC), Admission and Records Center (ARC), Security Office, Library, Student Accounts Office (SAO), Management Information System (MIS), and the Research, Innovation, Extension, and Community Outreach (RIECO). Additional highlights were provided by the Linkages Office, Ediphi, through its International Summer Work Program, and the Risk Management Office (RMO). The Dean also shared insights on entrepreneurship opportunities available to students, emphasizing pathways for innovation and practical experience.

Afternoon Program: SIT Matters and Breakout Sessions

In the afternoon, Dr. Ellen M. Halover discussed SIT Matters, which covered the UB Vision, Mission, Objectives, Core Values, Graduate Attributes, and SIT Mission and Objectives, and general school policies and procedures. The program concluded with breakout sessions led by the Program Chairs: Ms. Divine Aguilar-Agudong for BSIT, Ms. Cherrie Almazan for BSCS, and Mr. Meynard Soriano for BSCpE. These sessions provided students with program-specific insights, clarified expectations, and offered practical guidance to help them succeed in their academic endeavors.

By introducing students to policies, programs, services, and global linkages, the assembly reinforced SIT’s commitment to Quality Education (SDG 4), ensuring that learners are equipped with the resources to succeed. The event also aligned with Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11) by fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive university environment. In addition, it reinforced compliance with CHED Memorandum Order No. 09, s. 2013: Enhanced Policies and Guidelines on Student Affairs and Services, mandating schools, which mandates higher education institutions to provide comprehensive student support programs.

More than just an orientation, the SIT General Assembly and Orientation 2025 set the tone for the academic year by promoting inclusivity, resilience, and purpose. It reaffirmed SIT’s mission to produce graduates who are academically competent, socially responsible, and prepared to contribute meaningfully to sustainable development and society.
