On August 6, 2025, the officers of the STELA Psyche Organization, in partnership with representatives from the Philippine Mental Health Association–Cordillera Chapter, Inc. (PMHA-CCI), conducted a Psychological First Aid (PFA) Seminar for selected fourth-year psychology students. Participants were carefully chosen as representatives from the peer-mentoring groups established within the program. A total of 34 students attended the event.
This initiative supports UB’s pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular:
- Goal No. 4: Quality Education – conducting seminars led by industry professionals allows for more accessible, practical education, enhancing the learning experience of UB’s students and ensuring that they have the necessary skills to face the demands of the global community,
- Goal No. 3: Good Health and Well-being – pushing for more mental health support in education allows the university to equip future professionals with the capability to provide critical psychological support, allowing for a healthier community that supports the well-being of every individual, and
- Goal No. 17: Partnerships for the Goals – this event also strengthens the collaborative relationship between the University of Baguio and the Philippine Mental Health Association–Cordillera Chapter, facilitating joint initiatives that can promote knowledge exchange and the development of best practices in mental health education.
“Sobrang nakakatuwa na sa unting panahon eh natutunan niyo kung paano magpakita ng PFA sa iba’t ibang sitwasyon. Nakuha niyo kung paano umakto at kitang kita ang main principles ng PFA,”
(It’s very heartwarming that in such a short time you’ve learned how to demonstrate PFA in various situations. You really understood how to act, and the main principles of PFA were clearly evident).
— Ms. Wimberly N. Lumpias, PMHA-CCI Program Relations Officer
The morning session focused on a comprehensive discussion of PFA — what it is, why it matters, and how it can be applied in real-life situations. In the afternoon, the participants were divided into six groups and tasked to role-play various crisis scenarios, applying the principles they had learned. PMHA-CCI representatives observed each group, offering guidance and constructive feedback.

The activity not only strengthened the participants’ understanding of PFA but also prepared them to respond effectively in times of severe distress and crisis. As part of the program’s continuity plan, these trained representatives will share their knowledge with their respective peer-mentoring groups, with the goal of equipping every psychology student with the skills to perform PFA.
“Your department’s support is overwhelming. Nakakataba ng puso para ipagpatuloy ang adhika namin — PMHA, for every Filipino to reach the highest form of mental health. We are planting seeds. If you have the chance to advocate for mental health, as much as possible, let’s provide… to magnify the purpose,”

— Mr. Cashmir F. Cabalo, PMHA-CCI Head of Education and Advocacy Department
This initiative marks a significant step toward shaping future mental health practitioners who are ready to act when they are most needed. In a time when mental health is no longer a silent struggle but a collective responsibility, the STELA Psyche Organization proudly takes the lead. Proving that we are prepared, we are compassionate, and we are ready to face it head-on.
