On May 1–2, 2025, the faculty members of the School of Business and Accountancy (SBAA) enjoyed a refreshing rest and recreation getaway at Sunset Bay, La Union. The two-day event offered a well-deserved break from academic duties, allowing everyone to unwind, explore local attractions, and strengthen friendships. Faculty members took the opportunity to enjoy various restaurants in the area and participated in fun water activities, making the most of La Union’s weather and beach.

The highlight of the trip took place on May 1 at exactly 4:00 PM, when the group gathered in the open area of the resort for a team-building exercise. Dean Balanquit welcomed everyone and introduced a collaborative activity that tested their creativity and coordination as a team. Divided into two teams, the faculty members were tasked with constructing a bridge using limited materials, with just ten minutes to plan. Each team showcased its teamwork and problem-solving skills as it took turns building its bridges.

Excitement peaked as both bridges were tested by placing two 500ml water-filled bottles on them—each structure successfully withstood the weight, earning cheers from the participants. Dean Balanquit wrapped up the activity by emphasizing the importance of teamwork, adaptability, and trust in achieving shared goals. Beyond the fun and relaxation, the event reminded everyone of the value of collaboration, not just in activities, but in everyday academic and professional life.
This rest and recreation activity is closely aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, which emphasizes the importance of promoting mental health, overall well-being, and a healthy work-life balance. By providing faculty members with an opportunity to step away from their daily academic responsibilities, engage in stress-reducing activities, and build stronger social connections, the event contributed to a more positive and supportive work environment. Such initiatives are essential in fostering resilience, enhancing job satisfaction, and preventing burnout in the academic profession.
