The Licensure Examination
The Philippine Licensure Examinations for Certified Public Accountants (LECPA) is considered as one of the most difficult board examinations since the introduction of the profession. We could roughly estimate that over the 100 years of the profession’s existence, only one out of five board examination takers are able to pass the exam. Despite the challenges, the University of Baguio (UB), through the School of Business Administration and Accountancy (SBAA), remains committed to making sure that its students are well-prepared to overcome the hurdles of the board examination.
The Goal of Project Topnotcher
With the resumption of face-to-face classes, SBAA in coordination with the UB Chapter of the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (UB-JPIA) has revived “Project Topnotcher”. This project aims to further enhance the students’ mastery of various board examination topics with the ultimate goal of increasing their chances of passing and even topping the LECPA.
The project is a year-round event scheduled on Saturdays and taps university instructors, alumni, and students to facilitate lectures and problem-solving drills, which enhances students’ exposure and confidence in facing the actual LECPA. The program resets when a new academic year opens.
Preparing for the Future

Project Topnotcher activities are free of charge and open to all BS Accountancy students of SBAA. Students are highly encouraged to actively participate.
Project activities are not limited to lecture-discussions. It also conducts mock examinations, quiz bees, soft skills development, and crash reviews, all with the goal of enhancing students’ knowledge and skills relevant not only for board examination purposes but also for their careers in the future.
