The School of Business Administration and Accountancy (SBAA) of the University of Baguio successfully conducted its Research Colloquium 2025 on September 27, 2025, via Zoom, showcasing the research outputs of students who completed the course MANMGT5 (Business Research). The event brought together 24 research groups composed of Accountancy and Business Administration students, each presenting their studies before an academic panel and their peers. The event is organized in collaboration with SBAA student organizations, where it is composed of the Student Body (SB), Junior Association of Marketing Executives (JAME), Junior Executive Circle (JEC), Junior Financial Executives (JFINEX), and Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA). The colloquium aimed to strengthen the culture of research within the University while highlighting the role of student scholarship in addressing social, economic, environmental, and technological challenges that are relevant in the fast-changing global landscape.

The winning research papers reflected the depth and relevance of the research undertakings. The top three winning research groups not only portray their excellence to deliver and reach their research to the audience but also serve as a representation of the research students’ capacity and capability for impactful scholarly studies. The first-place study, “Influence of Financial Indicators on E-Payment Adoption by Selected Baguio Market Vendors” leaded by Janela Cañete and presented by Apriel Chelzeah Tubera, analyzed how vendors adapt to digital transactions wherein the study also revolves to  why the local market vendors choose to use, or not use, digital payments.

As the modern and cashless economy keeps on growing where consumers nowadays choose to pay digitally, the research topic puts emphasis on the importance of adapting and keeping up with the fast changing economy most especially for the small vendors and market sellers. Moreover, their  research contributed insights to SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, as well as financial inclusion practices. The study helps to make a modern and efficient way to transactions by encouraging small vendors and market sellers to use E-payments to significantly improve the process of building a better digital financial infrastructure for everyone.

The second-place research, “Assessing University of Baguio’s Learning Management System’s Effectiveness to Accountancy and Business Administration Students” leaded and presented by Vanessa Bunolna, focuses on the development of delivering a quality education to the students by a method that actually help them understand the lesson rather than its use of being convenient tool of learning. The second placer’s research is connected strongly with SDG 4: Quality Education, as it assessed how digital platforms support student learning outcomes and engagement. Also, it directs universities to improve the quality of education delivered to all students and provide better learning for them.

The third-place paper, “Factors Influencing University of Baguio Business Administration and Accountancy Students’ Saving Behavior” leaded by Aleah Dulay and presented by James Espiritu, supported SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth by emphasizing the importance of financial literacy and savings culture among students. Also, as the study focuses on the money habits of students, it puts importance on their  financial capabilities to manage their finances well and manage it wisely.

The event had a significant impact on both participants and the academic community. The presentation of 24 diverse studies offered perspectives on issues ranging from technology adoption to personal finance, enabling students to see how academic research can be directly linked to sustainable development goals. As the Research Colloquium served as an opportunity for the researchers to demonstrate the practical application of their research skills, it emphasizes their capabilities to think critically and focus on sustainable development challenges that placed a relevant impact on the overall condition of the city, communities and even industries.

Each research group presented with a deep understanding of their research topics, wherein the research colloquium became their way to proudly present their research papers, not only to gain experience for public speaking and academic defense but also to share the role of their research in building stronger communities and industries.  The collaborative role of SBAA organizations in managing the colloquium also underscored SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, showing how teamwork and academic solidarity contribute to meaningful learning experiences.

In the long term, the SBAA Research Colloquium 2025 demonstrated the University of Baguio’s commitment to advancing quality education and sustainable development through research. It is evident that through the Research Colloquium conducted by the School of Business Administration and Accountancy (SBAA),  the university doesn’t limit the opportunity for its students to widen their  experiences in presenting their work in a formal setting. With this, the SBAA Research Colloquium 2025 showcased that it had a significant impact on both participants and in the university where by providing a platform for the research groups, the University of Baguio proves their commitment to equipping its graduates with essential knowledge, skills, and innovative ideas that empowers them to care for their community as their social responsibility. The successful event underscored the hard work of the research groups and their enduring value of their own specializations as a force to create a positive change in the society.
