BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – The University of Baguio once again proved that its legacy of excellence extends beyond academics as it held the third installment of Dugong UBiano: A Blood Donation Drive on August 30, 2025. Organized by the ECOS- School of Nursing, ECOS- School of Natural Sciences and the School of Nursing Red Cross Youth Council, in
partnership with the Philippine Red Cross – Baguio City Chapter, the event drew overwhelming support from students, faculty, alumni, and staff.

The drive collected a total of 144 bags of blood, further strengthening the community’s contribution to saving lives. While slightly fewer than the 167 bags gathered last February 28, and building on the momentum of the April 13 drive, the August campaign reaffirmed the consistency and dedication of UBians in supporting humanitarian efforts. A highlight of the event was the participation of UB President Engr. Javier Herminio D. Bautista, MBA, who once again led by example as a donor, reflecting the culture of servant leadership deeply rooted in the UB community. “Dugong UB is proof that UBians are always ready to serve beyond the classroom,” said John Emmanuel Gatus, President of the UBSN- Red Cross Youth Council, underscoring the spirit of volunteerism that makes the event a cornerstone of the university’s identity.

More than a university tradition, Dugong UBiano also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—promoting Good Health and Well-Being (SDG 3) by ensuring access to safe blood supply, advancing Quality Education (SDG 4) by shaping socially responsible and compassionate graduates, and strengthening Partnerships for the
Goals (SDG 17) through its collaboration with the Philippine Red Cross. Held three to four times annually, Dugong UBiano has become one of UB’s most impactful humanitarian programs.

With every bag of blood capable of saving up to three lives, the initiative continues to touch countless families and communities in need. More than numbers, the event represents the very heart of being a UBian—a readiness to serve, a willingness to give, and an enduring commitment to excellence with compassion. As Dugong UBiano 2025 closed its third run, it sent a clear message: UBians do not just study for their future—they give life to others today.
