UBians coming together for the Dugong UBiano Blood Donation Drive at UB Centennial Hall
The Dugong UBiano program, spearheaded by the UB Extension & Community Outreach Services (ECOS) in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross – Baguio Chapter, Red Cross Youth, the UB School of Natural Sciences and School of Nursing, conducted a successful blood donation event last August 30, 2025, at the UB Centennial Hall.
The drive gathered 175 blood donors, producing 144 units of whole blood. A team of 64 volunteers from several UB communities and other organizations facilitated the smooth operation of the activity. The participating organizations compromised the School of Nursing (SON), the School of Natural Sciences (SNS), the UB Central Supply Room (CSR), the Medical Technology Interns’ Association (MTIA), the SNS Student Body (SB), PHISMETHS, L.I.F.E., and Red Cross Youth. Through these collaborative efforts, the program supports SDG17 (Partnerships for the Goals), demonstrating how institutions and organizations can work together for a shared humanitarian cause.
The blood donation campaign highlighted the UB community’s commitment to health and compassion. This initiative also contributes to SDG3 (Good Health and Well-being) by ensuring access to safe blood supply and promoting healthier communities. The event “One Drop at a Time at Dugong UBiano” embodied its name by showcasing unity, with each donor’s donation acting as an inspiration of hope for people in need.
The program was led by Ruben V. Nuarin Jr. (SNS ECOS Coordinator) and Fawn S. Maday-a (SON ECOS Coordinator). The Philippine Red Cross – Baguio Chapter sent a team of Honasan Ohelen, Raven Cabantac, Rizelle Dawiguey, Victoria Pilayan, and Gideon Negradas to help. The Medical Technology interns, who were led by Medical Technology Interns’ Association (MTIA) Adviser Marilyn M. Tomilas, also played an essential role in ensuring the success of the activity.
