From March 4 to 6, 2026, the Hotel Supreme Mall and Event Center in Baguio City served as the prestigious stage for the 9th International Farm Tourism Conference. Under the evocative theme “Highland Harvest: Cultivating Sustainable Agriculture and Tourism,” the event brought together over 300 global stakeholders, industry giants, and policymakers to chart a resilient future for travel and farming.
While the International School of Sustainable Tourism (ISST) and the Department of Tourism (DOT) led high-level discussions, 25 Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management (BSTM) students from the University of Baguio – School of International Hospitality and Tourism Management (SIHTM) captured the spotlight. Serving as the official ushers and usherettes, these students did not merely perform a task; they executed a masterclass in professional service that earned them high commendations from organizers and international delegates alike. Truly, SIHTM is the Home of the Champions—champions in excellent guest service.

The success of the event’s frontline operations was made possible by the tireless dedication of the student delegation, composed of Justine Rainier B. Tiamzon, Charls Vincent L. Angeles, Dwayne Jamaar F. Camero, Nygel Jameer F. de Castro, John Ezekiel T. Tomino, Karl John Michael E. Lardizabal, James A. Collado, Bruce Adam Pineda, Seann Rheyver M. Garcia, Marvin Carl R. Castro, Jezriel C. Dela Merced, Anhsu A. Ramones, Joseph B. Leo Jr., Mikhail Aslek C. Queypo, Vindy C. Paluero, Rhona Mae S. Soriano, Eulyza B. Rivera, Gabrielle Gwen M. Ramirez, Jasmine C. Giray, Mary Angel M. Guarin, Lara Jean S. Soriano, Kyllie Jhoane DG. Sta. Maria, Pauline J. Derupe, Daniella Mazen M. Moustafa, and Kyle Sophia D. Guinto.
The team demonstrated an unwavering commitment to operational excellence throughout the three-day summit, frequently noted for their proactive approach in managing delegate flow and VIP protocols. By maintaining a sharp, professional presence even during the most demanding hours, they perfectly embodied the core UBIAN attributes of being Empowered Professionals and Service-Oriented Citizens. Their exceptional performance ensured a seamless experience for dignitaries, proving that their training at SIHTM has prepared them for the rigors of international-scale MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions) events.

Furthermore, this initiative by the UB-SIHTM students was intentionally aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring that their service contributed to a larger global narrative and met specific performance indicators.
The students’ exposure supported SDG 4: Quality Education, specifically meeting Indicator 4.4.1 on increasing the proportion of youth with relevant technical and vocational skills for employment through high-level industry immersion. They also championed SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth by fulfilling Indicator 8.9.1 on implementing tools to monitor sustainable tourism that creates jobs and promotes local culture. Finally, their facilitation of a conference dedicated to sustainable farming directly supported SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, aligning with Indicator 12.8.1 by ensuring that information for sustainable development and lifestyles in harmony with nature is made accessible to a global audience.
The impact of their service was undeniable; their grace and efficiency were described by attendees as the personification of Cordilleran warmth. Whether they were assisting Guest of Honor and DOT Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco during the Asia’s Farm Tourism Awards (AFTA) Night or facilitating the symbolic sessions on “Tradition to Technology,” these students remained composed and attentive. By the end of the conference, the organizers from ISST, led by Dr. Mina Gabor, expressed high praise for the group’s discipline, cultural sensitivity, and uncanny ability to anticipate the needs of foreign delegates from across the globe.
The 25 BSTM-IT students were highly commended for their seamless integration into the conference’s workforce, providing them with invaluable insights into “Regenerative Tourism” and global hospitality standards. Their performance has not only brought immense pride to the University of Baguio but has also set a new benchmark for student excellence, proving that UBIANS are truly world-class leaders and that SIHTM remains the ultimate destination for those who strive to be champions in excellent guest service.
