The Center for Counseling and Student Development of the University of Baguio High School (CCSD-UBHS) conducted a Career Talk for Grade 10 and Grade 12 students on January 22 and 23, 2026, at the Legacy Hall, anchored on the theme “Every great future starts with a P.L.A.N. — Prepare, Learn, Apply, and Navigate your path.”
This activity aimed to guide students in addressing their career-related concerns while fostering diversity, engagement, and responsibility as future leaders who embody academic excellence. It also sought to provide students with opportunities to explore various career pathways, develop confidence, and cultivate a sense of responsibility consistent with the University of Baguio’s commitment of shaping leaders for school and society. In doing so, the event contributed to SDG 4: Quality Education, by equipping students with knowledge and skills for informed decision-making and lifelong learning.

For Grade 10 students, Mr. Ian Alangdeo of the UB Center for Counseling and Student Development emphasized self-awareness, skills development, and adaptability in career planning. He highlighted that career paths are not always linear and that learning from challenges is part of personal growth, reinforcing lifelong learning and resilience essential to sustainable development. His discussion encouraged students to balance passion with practicality while remaining responsive to emerging career trends in a changing world.
Meanwhile, Grade 12 students were guided by Ms. Romelda Escaño of the Public Employment Service Office (PESO), who discussed career-oriented decision-making grounded in self-assessment, labor market awareness, and long-term fulfillment. She emphasized that informed career choices contribute not only to individual success but also to national workforce development, supporting SDG 8 through employment readiness and productivity.

Completing the session, Mr. Jason Comila of the Department of Labor and Employment – Cordillera Administrative Region (DOLE–CAR) discussed key labor standards, anchored on the Labor Code of the Philippines and the Occupational Safety and Health Standards of DOLE. He provided students with knowledge on the rights and responsibilities of workers and employers, work ethics, values, and other labor-related information as future members of the workforce. His talk highlighted the value of being informed and protected in the workplace, demonstrating how partnerships between educational institutions and government agencies strengthen learning and workforce readiness, in line with SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
Overall, the Career Talk provided students with practical insights, encouragement, and direction, reinforcing the importance of planning, informed choices, and lifelong learning in building a successful future. Through fostering education, preparing for decent work, promoting equality of opportunity, and encouraging collaborative partnerships, the event exemplified the integration of SDGs 4, 8, and 17 into student development initiatives.
