Philippine-American Educational Foundation (PAEF), through the Fulbright Commission in the Philippines, brought international education opportunities to the University of Baguio (UB) with an Information Session and Orientation Activity on February 5, 2025, at UB Alumni AVR. The event aimed to strengthen academic exchange between UB and the United States, providing students, faculty, and staff with information on scholarship and fellowship programs.

The session was spearheaded by UB’s Research, Innovation, Extension, and Community Outreach Office (RIECO), led by Dr. Donnavila Marie B. Panday, JD, in collaboration with Ms. Angelica Tamayo from the Linkages Office.

The Fulbright Information Session introduced participants to various scholarship opportunities under the Fulbright Program and other US-Philippines exchange initiatives. Discussions covered program background, eligibility criteria, and application processes, with Fulbright alumni and grantees sharing their experiences and offering guidance to prospective applicants.

Among the scholarship programs presented were the Fulbright Foreign Student Program, the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program, and the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program.

A total of 15 UB faculty and staff and 47 students from various schools attended the session. The Fulbright delegation was led by Ms. Kyla Cuerpo, Program Assistant, Redentor De Silva, Finance and Admin Manager, and Kath Tansengco, Program Officer. They were joined by five distinguished Fulbright alumni, including:

  • Dr. Janet Luis (Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program 2013, University of Georgia)
  • Ms. Anne Cabanilla (International Leaders in Education Program 2016, Indiana University of Pennsylvania)
  • Dr. Soraya Faculo (Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program 2010, Vanderbilt University)
  • Dr. Mark Lopez (Fulbright Foreign Student Program 2015, University of Florida)
  • Mr. John Andrew Carvajal (Fulbright Foreign Student Program 2014, Montclair State University)

This initiative aligns with the university’s efforts in promoting Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, emphasizing the importance of inclusive and equitable learning opportunities on an international scale.
