The University of Baguio (UB) deeply values gender equality, striving to bring learning and training opportunities to every student regardless of gender.
Recent statistics at the university indicate that the majority of students – about 62.16% to be more precise, are women. Out of the over 17,000 students studying at UB more than half are women, and more than 1,000 of them are first-generation students starting a degree, meaning that they are the first in their family to pursue higher education.
According to the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Education, also known as UNESCO, many girls and women are unable to access their right to education because of inequality and discrimination. Other factors that may hinder their access to education include poverty, early marriage, and gender-based violence. UB’s high percentage of female students is indicative of its pursuit of providing balanced quality education at every level to every individual, regardless of gender.
