On February 28, 2025, the Centennial Hall of the University of Baguio (UB) became the venue for a significant event as candidates for the Mr. and Ms. University of Baguio (MMUB) pageant gathered to meet with the press and the public. Among the standout representatives were Mr. and Ms. School of Business Administration and Accountancy (SBAA), Lee Wyatt Banas and Ancris Joy Mabanglo, who shared their experiences and insights as they embarked on this exciting journey.
Lee Wyatt Banas: Representing SBAA with Pride and Determination
For Lee Wyatt Banas, the opportunity to represent the SBAA at the press conference was both a privilege and a challenge. He expressed his deep gratitude for the chance to stand for his department, noting that while the expectations weighed heavily on him, the experience was undeniably rewarding. “Getting the chance to represent my respective department has made me feel blessed yet all the while pressured, as the thought of people’s expectations and hopes weigh on my conscience,” said Banas. “But I am still grateful enough to have this opportunity, because this experience is an experience that couldn’t be bought, couldn’t be replicated, and certainly couldn’t be taken for granted.”
Banas reflected on the challenges of public speaking, admitting that the most memorable part of the event was finding the right words to express himself, especially with limited preparation time. Nevertheless, he felt that he did his best in the moment, showcasing his confidence and commitment to the role.
Looking ahead to the upcoming events of the Mr. and Ms. UB competition, Banas emphasized his dedication to giving his all, regardless of the outcome. “Expect me to do my best,” he stated. “I can’t promise that I would win, I can’t promise that I would even make it to the top five, but the only thing that I could really promise is that I would give it my all.”
Ancris Joy Mabanglo: A Milestone Experience for SBAA
For Ancris Joy Mabanglo, being part of the press conference was not just an honor but a significant milestone in her pageant journey. As a first-time competitor in such a prestigious event, Mabanglo shared that this experience felt like a major step forward compared to the smaller pageants she had previously participated in. “Representing SBAA at the press conference was a great honor and privilege,” she said. “It was an incredible experience for me, as this is my first time competing in such a significant pageant. Compared to the smaller pageants I’ve participated in before, this opportunity felt like a huge milestone and (was) deeply fulfilling.”
Mabanglo’s most memorable moment at the press conference came during the introductions, when she proudly declared that she was representing the School of Business Administration and Accountancy. “Being able to proudly utter the words, ‘representing the School of Business Administration and Accountancy,’ filled me with immense pride,” she said.
The press conference also gave Mabanglo the chance to practice thinking on her feet and responding under pressure, a skill she recognizes will be vital in the competition ahead. “I learned that I need to improve on articulating my thoughts clearly and effectively under pressure—skills that will be valuable in the competition,” she reflected.
With determination and humility, Mabanglo assured everyone that she would give her absolute best in every aspect of the competition. “Ayoko pong magsalita nang patapos, but rest assured, I will give my absolute best in every segment of the competition to make the whole SBAA proud,” she said.
