What a colorful and joyful day it was as our pupils celebrated United Nations Day!
The day began with a vibrant parade of children in beautiful national costumes, proudly representing countries from around the world. The air was filled with music, laughter, and songs of peace as everyone waved their flags with pride. Inside the classrooms, the celebration continued with fun activities singing, drawing world flags, learning about other countries, and sharing food brought from home. Each activity reminded the children of the true meaning of the United Nations: peace, friendship, and unity among all nations.
Let’s always remember the UN’s message “Peace begins with me.”
Through kindness, respect, and cooperation, we can all help make the world a brighter and more peaceful place.
What is the United Nations (UN)?
The United Nations is a group of countries that work together to make the world a better and safer place for everyone.
It was founded on October 24, 1945, after World War II. Many countries wanted to prevent wars and promote peace, that’s why they formed the UN!
Fun UN Trivia!
When the UN started, there were only 51 member countries. Today, there are 193 countries — almost every nation on Earth!
What Does the UN Do?
The UN helps countries: Solve problems peacefully, protect children and families, promote education and good health, take care of our environment
Throughout the celebration, teachers highlighted the importance of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These goals serve as a global blueprint for a better future. Through the day’s activities, the children were able to connect their learning to real-world values:
- SDG 4: Quality Education – by learning about cultures, geography, and global citizenship.
- SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions – by discussing peace, fairness, and kindness.
- SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals – by appreciating how countries must work together to solve global challenges.
- SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being – through safe and joyful participation in activities that promote a positive learning environment.
- SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities – by teaching acceptance and respect for diverse cultures and peoples.
Each activity served as a gentle reminder that the world is beautifully diverse — and that every child, no matter where they come from, belongs to a global family.
Let us always remember the UN’s message: “Peace begins with me.”
By practicing kindness, respect, and cooperation each day, we can all contribute to making our world a brighter, safer, and more peaceful place.
