The University of Baguio’s (UB) accountancy students made their mark at the 27th National Mid-Year Convention held in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental from February 11-14. This prestigious event brought together accounting students from across the country, providing a platform for them to showcase their skills and knowledge.

Keziah Grace Dupahnay and Jim Valenzuela, together with R1CAR delegates, demonstrated talent and dedication, bagging awards in various competitions. Their participation in the convention yielded impressive results, with Keziah placing as 3rd runner-up in The Seeds of Conquest: Advanced Financial Accounting and Reporting, and both Keziah and Jim, together with R1CAR delegates, placing 2nd runner-up in The Executives Clash. Moreover, Jim, together with R1CAR delegates, emerged as champions in Palaro ng Lahi: The NFJPIA’s Epic Festive Quest.
The competition highlighted the importance of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4: Quality Education, and Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth. By engaging in high-level academic contests and fostering financial literacy, the convention emphasized the role of young professionals in shaping a sustainable and resilient economy. Through these events, students not only enhanced their technical expertise but also gained a deeper understanding of ethical leadership and social responsibility—critical values in the accounting profession.
Throughout the 4-day convention, the students faced numerous challenges, from tireless days to mentally draining events. However, with the guidance of their adviser, Ms. Carren Cheong, they persevered and supported each other, ultimately emerging victorious.
Before bidding farewell to Bacolod, the students took a moment to appreciate the rich culture of Negros Occidental by visiting the Negros Occidental Museum. They also savored the famous grilled barbeque-sauced chicken that the popular Mang Inasal originated from.
Their success is a testament to the power of perseverance, teamwork, and determination. As they return home with medals and recognition, they also bring with them valuable lessons and cherished memories.
Grateful for the experience, they encourage fellow UB Accountancy students to seize opportunities in various JPIA events, pursuing excellence and striving for greatness together with UBJPIA.
