On March 6, 2026, the University of Baguio concluded the two-week Empowering Voyage of Learning Vision and Exchange (EVOLVE) Program, welcoming six student delegates from Nagasaki Wesleyan University (NWU) in Japan for a cross-cultural academic immersion in Baguio City.

Hosted by the School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts (STELA) and the School of International Hospitality and Tourism Management (SIHTM), the program aimed to strengthen intercultural understanding, global learning, and academic collaboration. The initiative supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education by providing intensive ESL classes, language development activities, and experiential learning opportunities that promote communication skills and global awareness.
At the same time, the program advances SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through international student exchange, cross-institutional collaboration, and academic mobility between UB and NWU. Faculty members from STELA and SIHTM, together with UB student buddies, guided the delegates through academic sessions, cultural exchanges, and community engagement activities throughout their stay.

Delegates engage in an Intensive ESL speaking session facilitated by Ms. Nicole Anne Carmen, supporting SDG 4 (Quality Education) through language learning and intercultural exchange.
During the immersion, the delegates participated in Intensive ESL classes, interactive classroom discussions, and cultural learning sessions designed to strengthen their English communication skills. They also engaged in cultural exchanges with elementary and high school students, explored local heritage sites, and experienced the vibrant Panagbenga Festival, gaining a deeper appreciation of Filipino culture and community life.

NWU students share culture, language, and traditions with members of the UB Science High School Japanese Club during a lively intercultural exchange session.
These activities created meaningful opportunities for collaborative learning, intercultural dialogue, and global engagement among students from different cultural backgrounds. Several delegates expressed their interest in returning to UB for the one-year exchange program beginning in August 2026, demonstrating the long-term impact of the EVOLVE initiative in strengthening international academic partnerships.

The University of Baguio extends its sincere appreciation to Nagasaki Wesleyan University, the STELA and SIHTM faculty members, and the UB Buddy Program participants for their contributions to the program’s success. Through initiatives such as EVOLVE, UB continues to promote inclusive education, global cooperation, and sustainable academic partnerships, reinforcing its commitment to preparing students for a globally connected world.

BAEL buddies and visiting Japanese students create meaningful memories together through campus activities, cultural exchanges, and shared experiences in Baguio City, moments of friendship and learning captured and cherished during their time at the University of Baguio.
