The University of Baguio’s Commitment to Gender Equality and Empowerment

Other Posts

The University of Baguio is committed to the advancement of gender equality and the elimination of gender-based discrimination. This dedication is manifested in programs designed to empower women and girls, facilitate equitable participation in all facets of life, and cultivate inclusive and sustainable communities. Presently, the university boasts a total of 91 Marshals, consisting of 71 males and 20 females. Each of these students is a scholar at the institution, underscoring the university’s emphasis on academic excellence while simultaneously addressing gender representation among its members.

The inclusion of female Marshals denotes progress toward realizing gender parity in leadership positions within the University. Through the active pursuit of these initiatives, the University of Baguio not only fosters the development of its students but also contributes to extensive societal transformations advocating for equality and inclusivity.

Attaining the position of a marshal signifies more than merely possessing a designation—it embodies the increasing acknowledgment that women are equally qualified to enforce regulations, uphold public order, and excel in high-pressure environments. Their involvement in these capacities challenges long-standing stereotypes and promotes a more inclusive society, wherein leadership and professional opportunities are dictated by competence and merit rather than gender.

This transformation not only benefits women by expanding their career prospects but also fortifies institutions, infusing them with diverse viewpoints and methodologies for problem-solving and community interaction. Ultimately, by attaining SDG 5: Gender Equality, the involvement of women as marshals serves as a potent indicator of progress toward equitable representation and justice across all domains of society.
