January 8, 2026 – The University of Baguio and its partner institution, Huachiew Chalermprakiet University (HCU), reaffirmed their commitment to international academic cooperation through the renewal of their Memorandum of Understanding and Agreement (MOU / MOA) in Samut Prakan, Thailand. Representing UB was Dr. Janice Kaylyn Lonogan, while representing HCU was Dr. Jonathan Rante Carreon, both of whom are currently serving as the Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) for their respective institutions. Also in attendance were Dean Teresa Villanueva of UB’s School of Natural Sciences (SNS) and HCU’s International Relations Officer, Mr. Yanjun Xia.

The agreement highlights the shared vision of both institutions in advancing quality education through international collaboration, cultural exchange, and enhanced professional training. Since 2022, UB’s partnership with HCU has facilitated academic mobility programs that have allowed seven batches of SNS students to receive international training. This semester, a total of 39 Medical Laboratory Science interns, along with 2 faculty members, will be spending a month with HCU under the same initiatives to receive clinical laboratory training and cultural immersion.

Academic Collaboration for a Sustainable Future
This renewed collaboration directly supports UB’s pursuit of SDG No. 4: Quality Education by making inclusive, equitable, and high-quality learning opportunities accessible to every student through international academic exchange and skills-based training. It also supports SDG No. 17: Partnerships for the Goals, through its strengthening of institutional linkages, leading to long-term collaboration between higher education institutions not just within the country, but abroad.
Apart from that, it also contributes to SDG No. 3: Good Health and Well-being by strengthening the clinical competencies of Medical Laboratory Science interns, leading to reliable professionals who are able to deliver safe, accurate, and high-quality healthcare services. It also contributes to SDG No. 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions through its facilitation of institutional cooperation and professional ethics between communities, building a foundation of trust, cross-cultural respect, and stronger educational institutions committed to global collaboration.
Through partnerships with institutions like HCU, the University of Baguio continues to reinforce its commitment to global engagement, academic excellence, and sustainable development in higher education.
