In line with the S.A.L.U.N.-A.T. Initiative, the University of Baguio (UB) School of Nursing proudly spearheaded a dynamic two-day training program on February 24–25, 2026, designed to equip the newest employees of John Hay Hotels, Baguio City, with essential lifesaving skills. The first batch of participants underwent intensive Basic Life Support (BLS) and Standard First Aid Training (SFAT) sessions, facilitated by a dedicated faculty member Ms. Fawn Maday-a, alongside four accomplished UB alumni Mr. Vince Andaya, Mr. Eric Villamor, Mr. Jehoshua Sarmiento and Mr. Miguel Valentin and one alumnus from Saint Louis University’s School of Nursing.

This collaborative effort not only strengthened the participants’ emergency response capabilities but also underscored the school’s commitment to fostering community safety and professional excellence. By bridging academic expertise with real-world application, the School of Nursing continues to champion initiatives that empower communities, ensuring that lifesaving knowledge becomes a shared responsibility and a lasting legacy.

The training program also aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Specifically, it advances SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being by promoting preparedness in medical emergencies and reducing risks of preventable deaths. It supports SDG 4: Quality Education through the provision of practical, skills-based learning beyond the classroom. Furthermore, the initiative contributes to SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth by equipping employees with competencies that enhance workplace safety and resilience.
Through this initiative, the UB School of Nursing demonstrates how academic institutions can play a pivotal role in advancing sustainable development, empowering individuals, and strengthening community health systems for a safer and more resilient society.
