The University of Baguio Science High School successfully conducted an Outreach
Activity on February 13, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, aimed at promoting environmental
consciousness and climate change advocacy. The event brought together 183
enthusiastic student participants and five teachers from Quezon Hill Elementary School, providing them with an engaging seminar and hands-on workshop focused on environmental protection and sustainable practices. The activity’s primary goal was to raise awareness about the pressing issues of climate change while encouraging
collective action at both the school and community levels.

This initiative was organized and spearheaded by the school’s YES-O (Youth for
Environment in Schools Organization), PSYS (Philippine Society of Youth Clubs), and
the Research Club. The seminar-workshop featured insightful presentations from Mrs.
Illuminada Menzi and Ms. Abegail Palcongan, both dedicated Science teachers from the University of Baguio Science High School. They provided participants with an in-depth understanding of the science behind climate change, highlighting both local and global consequences. Furthermore, the speakers emphasized practical strategies that students and educators can implement in their daily lives, such as proper waste
segregation, reducing carbon footprints, conserving energy, and actively engaging in
environmental programs within their communities.

The outreach activity was made possible through the generous support of several school organizations, including Alluyon, Gazette, the English Club, the Alumni Association, as well as personal contributions from both teachers and students. Their combined efforts ensured a well-organized and impactful program that left participants motivated to become proactive environmental stewards.
By conducting this outreach, the University of Baguio Science High School reaffirmed its commitment to environmental awareness, collective responsibility, and quality
education. The activity aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 13: Climate Action and SDG 4: Quality Education, demonstrating the school’s dedication to nurturing future leaders who are not only academically competent but also socially and environmentally conscious.
