TOTTORI, JAPAN – Students from UB Science High School made their mark on the international stage as they participated in the SOTO Model United Nations/High School Asia Pacific Conference, held at Kurayoshi Higashi Senior High School in Tottori, Japan, from September 17 to 18, 2025. The delegation’s participation underscores the institution’s commitment to developing globally competent students equipped to address pressing worldwide challenges.

The two-day conference brought together young minds from across the Asia-Pacific region to deliberate on one of the most critical issues of our time: “International Collaboration in the Medical Field with the Development of Science and Technology, including AI.” This timely theme reflects the growing intersection between healthcare innovation and artificial intelligence, topics that have become increasingly relevant in shaping the future of global medicine.

UB Science High School delegates actively participated in diplomatic discussions, presenting thoroughly researched position papers that showcased their understanding of complex medical and technological issues. Through structured debates and collaborative sessions, students worked alongside their international peers to develop comprehensive resolutions addressing healthcare challenges in an era of rapid technological advancement.

The conference provided an invaluable platform for Filipino students to engage in meaningful dialogue about how artificial intelligence and emerging technologies can revolutionize medical practices, improve healthcare accessibility, and promote international cooperation in addressing global health crises. Delegates learned to navigate the complexities of international diplomacy while advocating for evidence-based solutions to real-world problems.

Beyond the academic rigor, the conference served as a transformative experience in fostering global citizenship and intercultural understanding. Students had the opportunity to interact with peers from diverse cultural backgrounds, exchanging perspectives and building lasting connections that transcend geographical boundaries. These interactions enriched their worldview and deepened their appreciation for collaborative problem-solving in an interconnected world.

The participation aligns strategically with UB Science High School’s institutional goals, particularly Key Result Area 5, which emphasizes relations with the community and broader engagement beyond campus borders. By taking part in international conferences, the school demonstrates its dedication to preparing students who can contribute meaningfully to global conversations and initiatives.

Furthermore, this engagement directly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals. The conference embodied the spirit of international cooperation necessary to achieve sustainable development, allowing students to understand firsthand how collaborative efforts can address complex challenges that no single nation can solve alone.

The experience also strengthened essential competencies among UB delegates, including critical thinking, public speaking, research skills, and diplomatic communication. These abilities are fundamental not only for academic excellence but also for developing future leaders capable of navigating an increasingly complex global landscape.

UB Science High School’s continued participation in prestigious international conferences reflects its progressive vision of education that extends beyond traditional classroom learning. By providing students with opportunities to engage with global issues and international communities, the school cultivates well-rounded individuals prepared to make significant contributions to society.

As the delegates return home with enriched perspectives and strengthened resolve, their participation in the SOTO Model United Nations conference stands as a testament to Filipino youth’s capability to compete and collaborate on the world stage, representing their country with distinction and purpose.
