Jessica Andrea M. Borja, a University of Baguio (UB) Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management with a specialization in Professional Culinary Arts (BSHM-PCA) student secured a spot in the Top 10 at the inaugural Emperador Academy HRM Students Cocktail Competition. Her original drink, Easter’s Twilight, was inspired by her family’s tradition of celebrating Easter akin to Christmas. Crafted as a tropical and floral concoction, she dedicated the cocktail to her grandfather, who taught her the spirit of being the life of the party with Emperador in hand.
The momentous awarding ceremony took place on June 11, 2024, at UB, where Emperador representatives awarded Jessica Php100,000 worth of scholarships. Mr. Joey Divino, Emperador Brandy Brand Manager, gave a message following a warm introduction by Ms. Jenelyn Mangangey-Magpatoc, the Dean of the School of International Hospitality and Tourism Management (SIHTM).
Jessica had the opportunity to showcase her cocktail mix to the Emperador team, UB faculty, and fellow students. A toast of excellence followed as led by UB President, Engr. Javier Herminio Bautista, acknowledging the achievement of the SIHTM students.
Additionally, Cleo Ivy R. Unay, another BSHM-PCA student reached the Top 30 as a semi-finalist with her cocktail “Ballikaysa”, derived from “Balligi ti pannakaykaysa,” translating to “Success for everyone.” She received a Php5,000 prize.
Jessica and Cleo brought prestige to their school with their innovative creations and commitment to excellence, embodying the heart of champions. They were coached by Mr. John Frank Sabado and Mr. Jumel Oliver Salva, both faculty members of SIHTM.
The triumph is emblematic of the university’s drive for quality education, imbuing its students with the knowledge and skills necessary to be able to navigate their future professional field with ease.
