In light of fostering the research culture and strengthening the collaboration in health research with academic and professional institutions, the University of Baguio School of Dentistry joins in the celebration of the 13th Regional Health Research Conference successfully initiated by the Cordillera Regional Health Research and Development Consortium held in June 19-20, 2025 at Fr. Verbist Hall, St. Louis University, Baguio City.

The program envisioned the sharing of knowledge and perspectives in health research through the presentation of excellent research by students and professionals from various academic institutions in the Cordillera Administrative Region. The program consisted of multiple research lectures highlighting the technical and ethical aspects of the research process, integrating the output into policies and programs for allied health. Numerous academic institutions from CAR also took part in the poster and oral presentations of their accomplished research.

Two of the University of Baguio School of Dentistry students were selected as finalists in the names of Drew Ann Maris Alfonso, who competed in the Poster Presentation with the research of her group entitled “Interactive Media Dental Education of Primiparas (First-time Mothers) for Infant Oral Health Management” and Romell Andrei Esteban who competed in the Oral Presentation for the student category with the research of his group entitled “Use of Digital Media for Basic Oral Hygiene Literacy Intervention Program among Caregivers of Pre-school Children”. The duo took part in the podium and poster training and seminar workshop sponsored by CRHRDC, which was held on June 9, 2025, at Paragon Hotel, Baguio City, and ultimately presented their research in the event proper.

The students, as participants, were elated and thrilled with this one-of-a-kind and memorable experience in their journey in the academe. This endeavor was also made possible by the support and commitment to research by the school, spearheaded by the Dean, Dr. Ian Steve Bandaay, their research professor and subject teacher, Dr. Maria Lourdes E. Cantor, and the School Research Anchorperson, Dr. Edgar Allan S. Pangisban. The culmination of this activity highlighted the importance of collaboration and sharing of knowledge and expertise in research among the Allied Health Professions and bolstered the research capacity for both students and professionals alike in the University.

Encouraging participation in events such as these supports UB’s pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular Goal No. 3: Good Health and Well-being. By advancing research into Dentistry, the university continues to broaden the field, paving the way for future innovations that will continue to advance the state of dental care not just in the Baguio or the Philippines, but on a global level.
