UB Stands with Indigenous Communities

Other Posts

In celebration of Indigenous Peoples Month, the University of Baguio has expressed its support for the Indigenous communities across the Philippines, commemorating the Indigenous Peoples’ Rights Act of 1997 or IPRA.

The IPRA, or Republic Act. 8371, aims to recognize, protect, and promote the rights of Indigenous cultural communities. It established the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples or the NCIP, which endeavors to protect and promote the interests and well-being of the Indigenous Peoples (IPs), leading and advocating the formulation of policies, plans, and programs that directly benefit Indigenous Cultural Communities (ICCs).

The University of Baguio is committed to supporting initiatives that bolster solidarity among the members of the community. UB makes an effort to participate in events that directly contribute to building stronger, more peaceful, and inclusive institutions, paving the way for a more harmonious society. Through continuous engagement, collaboration and shared values, the university aims to foster a sense of unity and purpose within and beyond its community.

Happy Indigenous Peoples Month, UBians!
