University of Baguio Conducts Enhancement Training Program for Secretaries and Office Representatives

As UB continuously engages its employees in programs and platforms
that develop their core competencies to be able to provide quality service in the
workplace, the President’s Office in partnership with the Human Resource Management Center (HRMC) conducted a series of Enhancement Training Programs for all the university secretaries
and office representatives. These training sessions aim to equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary for them to excel in their respective roles.

The Enhancement Training Program commenced on November 18, 2022, with Ms. Rizalina M. Castillo, a distinguished faculty member from the School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts (STELA), as the Resource Speaker. Ms. Castillo’s session focused on “Effective Notes and Minutes Taking,” a crucial skill for administrative personnel.

During the session, Ms. Castillo shared practical but important tips and strategies for taking clear, concise, and accurate notes during meetings and discussions. She emphasized the importance of organized note-taking in facilitating effective communication and decision-making within the university. Participants learned about various note-taking methods, digital tools, and best practices to improve their skills in this vital area.

A total of 35 non-teaching personnel actively engaged in this informative session, laying the foundation for the subsequent training modules.

The second phase of the Enhancement Training Program took place on December 9, 2022, with Ms. Joanna Marie B. Victorio from the School of International Hospitality and Tourism Management (SIHTM) serving as the Resource Speaker. Her presentation revolved around the theme “How to Establish Professionalism in the Workplace.”

Ms. Victorio’s session delved into the elements that contribute to a professional work environment, emphasizing the importance of ethical behavior, effective communication, and the development of interpersonal skills. Participants learned how to handle workplace conflicts gracefully, build positive relationships with colleagues, and project a professional image.

This seminar attracted considerable interest with 37 non-teaching employees from various departments eager to enhance their professionalism, resulting in an engaged audience and interactive discussions.

The culminating phase of the Enhancement Training Program took place on February 17, 2023, with Dr. Ruby R. Buccat from the School of Business Administration and Accountancy (SBAA) as the Resource Speaker. Dr. Buccat’s session, titled “Understanding Different Personalities in the Workplace,” aimed to promote harmonious working relationships among university personnel.

In her engaging presentation, Dr. Buccat discussed various personality types and the implications of these differences in a team setting. Participants gained insights into effective communication and collaboration with colleagues of diverse personalities, leading to improved teamwork and productivity.

A total of 39 non-teaching personnel actively participated in this final activity, further solidifying the success of the Enhancement Training Program.
