The University of Baguio (UB) had a series of outreach activities for its 75th Foundation Anniversary Celebration Closing Program 2024. The program aims to engage the wider Baguio community more effectively and foster impactful community engagement.

Spearheaded by President, Engr. Javier Herminio D. Bautista, together with Research Innovation Extension and Community Outreach (REICO) Director and Staff, the cluster’s outreach activities were based on areas of expertise of the university to more effectively address various community needs.

The outreach program extends beyond UB’s campus and involves various barangays and schools in Baguio. UB partnered with Barangay Pinsao and Barangay Pucsusan, providing assistance where it is needed most, such as livelihood support, education, and community development.

Barangay Pinsao, a 2024 Newly Adopted Barangay of University of Baguio, was recommended by a social worker from City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) as a partner barangay due to its size and need for assistance in various areas such as livelihood and peace management.

The program aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including quality education (SDG 4), decent work and economic growth (SDG 8), and partnerships for the goals (SDG 17). By focusing on these goals, UB aims to contribute to broader community development and sustainability.

The outreach program covers a wide range of sectors under the 5 Pillars of UB C.A.R.E.S Program, including Health, Livelihood, Infrastructure, Literacy, and Peace and Order. Each month, different clusters focus on specific areas to maximize the program’s impact.

For this year, the program started last January by conducting medical and dental missions, moving on to livelihood-focused activities in February, and implementing infrastructure-related services in March. The program’s focus in April is on literacy needs within the partner community in Baguio, Pinsao.

UB’s outreach program receives funding from its outreach fund, with specific budgets allocated to each participating department or school. The Extension & Community Outreach Services (ECOS) coordinators oversee the planning and execution of activities, ensuring that resources are utilized effectively to achieve the desired impact.

UB’s outreach program reflects its commitment to community engagement and social responsibility. By working closely with local communities and addressing their needs, UB aims to create a positive and lasting impact in Baguio City and beyond.
