The University of Baguio Extension and Community Outreach Services (ECOS) has revived the Dugong UB blood donation program after two years on hiatus.
The blood donation event happened on February 24, 2022 from 8:30am – 2:30pm. This event was in collaboration of UB C.A.R.E.S under ECOS, the school of Natural Sciences (SNS), Baguio General Hospital Medical Center, and the Blood bank Center.
Dugong UB was restarted when a request from the Blood bank center came asking for blood donations. Reserves started to run low due to the effect of Covid-19. This program was placed on hold for almost two years due to the pandemic.
The president of UB graced the event and was the very first one to make a blood donation, ushering in the restart of Dugong UB as a program and as the event of that day.
The blood-donating event was open to UB employees and interns. Overall, more than 30 people came to donate on that day.
Employees and interns of SNS were primarily those who gave blood on this first event, though future plans for Dugong UB sees it slowly opening to other students and the general public as the restrictions from the pandemic loosens up.
Though not yet set in stone, the UB ECOS team has plans of making Dugong UB more of a regular event, either done monthly or following a set of schedule.
