The available freshwater in the world is only 1% making it a limited resource that is sustainable if managed properly. In harmony, effective water management is important in the preservation of water. As part of the environmental program of the University of Baguio, the Campus Planning and Development Office (CPDO) is encouraging everyone to help in the preservation of our water resources.
The university has three deep wells as the main source of water, the university also utilizes a rainwater collection system as another source of water supply. The groundwater and rainwater undergo a disinfection process through the chlorination method. The water from both sources is continuously monitored and tested by the DOST Water Testing Lab to ensure that it is safe for domestic use. The test includes a Microbiological test conducted quarterly and a Physicochemical test conducted semi-annually.
The university’s staff and students all contribute significantly to water conservation. Everyone must assume responsibility for water efficiency by implementing the following water management techniques:
- When the water is not in use, turn off the tap.
- When you wash your hands, do not let the water run when you lather the soap on your hands.
- Do not let the water run while brushing your teeth.
- While showering, turn off the faucet and lather the soap on your body.
- Should you notice any water leaks, report to the faculty office or call CPDO thru local 238.
