UB Science High School (UBSHS) has once again distinguished itself at the Regional
Schools Press Conference (RSPC), held at Divine Word College of Bangued in Bangued, Abra from March 9–12, 2026, marking yet another chapter of achievement for the institution. This year’s event highlighted the relentless dedication, collaborative spirit, and creative drive of UBSHS participants, resulting in numerous accolades that secured their advancement to the National Schools Press Conference (NSPC), scheduled for April 13–17, 2026 in Ormoc City, Leyte. These accomplishments not only affirm the school’s leadership in regional media education but also underscore its mission to cultivate journalists capable of producing truthful
and impactful content amid evolving global challenges.

In the individual English categories, standout performers included Dwein Calaunan, who clinched first place in Photojournalism; Marxia Gadduang, who earned third place in Editorial Writing; and Avenna Puruel, who secured fifth place in Feature Writing. These student journalists were guided by Dr. Veronica Bito, whose mentorship emphasized precision, critical thinking, and creativity in their submissions.

Meanwhile, group events shone just as brightly, with UBSHS securing first place in both Collaborative Desktop Publishing and Online Publishing. These victories were led by Dr. Roselle Aniceto, whose guidance fostered innovation by blending traditional layout techniques with dynamic digital formats. The school publication, Gazette, further strengthened its reputation by earning first place for the Science and Technology Page, fifth place for the Editorial Page, and fifth runner-up for Overall Best School Paper. These achievements were made possible under the supervision of adviser Mr. Fred Florenz O. Abastillas, reflecting the strength of the school’s editorial organization.

In the Filipino categories, Chelsea Fianna Samson captured third place in Pagsulat ng
Balita (News Writing) under the guidance of Mr. Jesus G. Boac. Other RSPC qualifiers who demonstrated promising journalistic talent include Mandy Joie Abarientos in Copyreading, Laurence Carlo Velasquez in News Writing, Julianna Atheena in Science and Technology Writing, and Dolce Guebryl Ryce Lizardo in Pagguhit ng Kartung Editoryal (Editorial Cartooning). Their achievements reflect a strong pipeline of emerging campus journalists ready to reach greater heights.
Collectively, these accomplishments embody UBSHS’s unwavering pursuit of excellence in responsible journalism, equipping students with the skills needed to navigate diverse media platforms with integrity. As preparations intensify for the upcoming NSPC, the school looks forward to amplifying its voice on the national stage while continuing to nurture a legacy of empowered storytellers.
These remarkable achievements at the RSPC not only celebrate UBSHS’s excellence in
campus journalism but also contribute meaningfully to the goals of United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) by empowering young journalists with critical thinking, ethical communication, and media literacy skills essential for informed citizenship and societal progress. As the team heads to the NSPC, their journey continues to inspire others to pursue responsible storytelling that promotes transparency, truth, and equity in communities across the Philippines.
