Baguio Gold Elementary School (BGES), under the DepEd Benguet program, launched the project “Strengthening W.A.S.H. in BGES: The TAG Way” to help learners live out the Three Acts of Goodness (TAG) by encouraging them to do good deeds, speak good words, and think good thoughts while building practical, everyday hygiene habits. The main objective is to encourage learners at BGES to wash their hands regularly and adopt clean routines, improving both their personal health and the overall wellbeing of the school community, while upgrading facilities to make hygiene practices more engaging and easier to sustain.
The project directly supports SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation (especially target 6.2 for better sanitation and hygiene access through soap-and-water handwashing and upgraded facilities). It also ties into SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being (target 3.9, cutting health risks from poor water) and SDG 4: Quality Education (target 4.7, building sustainable development skills via playful, lifelong habits).

In partnership with the University of Baguio–School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts (STELA), the project was led by DepEd Benguet’s Administrative Officer II, Sir Gary B. Frondarina. Key contributions came from the joint efforts of the Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (BAPS) and Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd) programs, including faculty members Ms. Jenny Marsha B. Agtani and Ms. Charmaine P. Velarde, alongside Community, Outreach, and Community Coordinator Mr. Norman D. Patiang.

They artistically painted a vibrant mural on the WASH facility wall, bursting with colors depicting kids handwashing, brushing teeth, staying clean, reading, painting, and caring for nature. Every brushstroke radiates TAG principles, blending education and creativity to make hygiene fun and unforgettable. Complementing this, hand-painted signboards at the school’s front gate remind learners and stakeholders to love and care for their school, reinforcing Baguio Gold as a child-friendly space.

These efforts remind us that nurturing children’s well-being starts with simple acts of goodness, protecting their health today ensures a brighter, healthier tomorrow for our communities.
