Mock Interview 2026: UBians Step into the Interview Seat

Written by Kristina Velasco

The University of Baguio, through the Center for Counseling and Student Development (CCSD), successfully conducted the Mock Interview for graduating students during the second semester of SY 2025–2026. Held on March 17–19, March 24–27, and April 13, 2026, the activity carried the theme #BeJobReadyUbians2.0, highlighting the University’s continuous efforts to equip students with essential employability skills and prepare them to become globally competitive professionals. This initiative supports Sustainable Development Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by promoting readiness for productive employment.

A total of 1,144 graduating students participated in the activity, representing various academic schools. The strong turnout reflected the students’ growing awareness of the importance of career preparation. The Mock Interview served as a platform for simulated job interviews that mirror real-world recruitment processes, allowing students to practice communication, self-presentation, and response strategies in a structured and supportive environment. In doing so, the activity also contributes to Sustainable Development Goal 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by providing equal opportunities for all students to develop critical job-seeking skills regardless of background.

In addition to the interview component, the activity covered the entire job application process. Students were required to prepare and submit key application documents, including their résumé, application letter, and for SCJPS students, a Personal Data Sheet commonly used in government employment. This comprehensive approach enabled participants to become more familiar with actual job application requirements.

The interviews were primarily conducted at the FGB Hall and followed a panel interview format. Staff from the Library and Research Innovation, Extension, and Community Outreach (RIECO) assisted as interviewers on selected days. During the activity, students were grouped and assigned to interviewers, where they were assessed based on their application documents, self-management, communication skills, professional attire, job knowledge, and overall delivery. This format provided a more realistic experience of actual hiring procedures.

Following each interview session, students received both verbal and written feedback to guide their improvement. Their submitted documents were also reviewed using CCSD-templated checklists to ensure consistency and fairness in evaluation. This immediate and constructive feedback helped students identify their strengths and areas for development while gaining practical insights on how to enhance both their interview performance and application materials.

Through this initiative, the University of Baguio continues to support graduating students in their transition from academic life to the professional world. By providing opportunities that bridge classroom learning with real-world experience, the University reaffirms its commitment to developing career-ready graduates who can confidently meet workplace demands and pursue meaningful career paths.
