In a move that underscores the importance of collaboration between academia and the criminal justice sector, the University of Baguio’s School of Criminal Justice and Public Safety (SCJPS) recently hosted a Tripartite Review Meeting under the banner of O.N.E. C.J.E. 9.0: Operationalizing Networks for Excellent Criminal Justice Education. This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
Key highlights of the meeting included the standardization of internship programs to ensure students gain relevant practical experience and are well-prepared for their future careers, directly contributing to SDG 4 by providing quality and relevant education; the identification and listing of essential competencies required by each agency, enabling the SCJPS to tailor its curriculum to meet the specific demands of the criminal justice field and ensure graduates are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to contribute effectively to a just and peaceful society (SDG 16); and active participation from various agencies, including the Baguio City Police Office, Baguio City Jail – Male Dormitory, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group – CAR, Highway Patrol Group, La Trinidad District Jail – Female Dorm, Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit – Cordillera, and Regional Mobile Force Battalion 15.
The November 19, 2024, meeting at the University’s Centennial Hall brought together key stakeholders, including faculty members, staff, students, and representatives from various law enforcement agencies. Participants engaged in productive discussions on enhancing the SCJPS curriculum and internship program.
The O.N.E. C.J.E. 9.0 Tripartite Review Meeting is a concrete example of the University of Baguio’s dedication to fostering strong partnerships (SDG 17) to enhance the quality of education and contribute to a more just and peaceful society. This initiative benefits the students and the university and strengthens law enforcement agencies’ capacity in the Cordillera Administrative Region.
