Education is the foundation of a flourishing society, and the quality of education is heavily determined by the learning environment. The University of Baguio participated in the annual Brigada Eskwela on August 2024 at Lindawan Elementary School, UB’s partner school. As part of the school’s outreach program,  volunteer faculty and officers of the Student Administrative Council from the School of Teacher Education (STELA) and the School of Criminal Justice and Public Safety (SCJPS), as well as staff from the Campus Planning and Development Office (CPDO) came together to create a more conducive learning environment for the students.

Creating a Friendly Atmosphere

Nestled in the heart of Lucnab, Lindawan Elementary School provides a supportive environment for growing minds. Participating in Brigada Eskwela allows us to unite as a community to establish a warm and inspiring environment at the school. Among other things, volunteers store classroom supplies, paint walls, mow the playground, and remove weeds in the backyard. These programs not only improves the school’s external appearance, but it also motivates students to put in extra effort in the classroom and show an interest in learning.

Fostering Community Collaboration

Even though the Brigada Eskwela at Lindawan Elementary School is a half-day event, it still demonstrates the potential of community collaboration. The UB teachers, students, and staff come together to donate their time, skills, and resources. This collaborative endeavor enhances the relationship between the school and the community, instilling a sense of shared responsibility and ownership. This active participation in Brigada Eskwela demonstrates the devotion to the children’s education and well-being.

Empowering Students and Teachers

The teachers, students, and staff who participated in Brigada Skwela at Lindawan Elementary School empowered them and improved their relationship with the school. Students gain a sense of pride and control over their learning environment, which improves their motivation and academic achievement. Teachers, on the other hand, feel a renewed sense of support and appreciation from the community. This combined effort enhances their morale and motivates them to continue giving high-quality education.

Sustaining the Impact

Participating in Brigada Skwela at Lindawan Elementary School has a significant impact. It acts as a stimulus for continued community participation and support. It can continue to provide a positive learning environment for our students throughout the year by instilling a sense of involvement and civic responsibility. Regular maintenance and care of school facilities, as well as ongoing community engagement, ensure that pupils receive the greatest possible educational experience.
