In a meaningful demonstration of international collaboration and civic engagement, ten cultural exchange students from Khon Kaen University (KKU) joined five Political Science students from the University of Baguio for a community outreach held at Child and Family Service Philippines Inc. (CFSPI) on May 7, 2026. CFSPI is a nongovernmental organization that aims for the prevention of child abuse, neglect, and exploitation through advocacy, education, and direct community services. It promotes the protection of children in need of special protection and the empowerment of women and families.

The outreach activity served as a platform for cultural exchange, youth empowerment, and shared social responsibility. Through a carefully organized program, the participating students engaged the children of CFSPI in a series of interactive games and creative activities designed to foster confidence, cooperation, and self-expression.
Among the highlights of the event was the “Commitment Tree,” a symbolic activity that encouraged participants to write personal commitments, aspirations, and messages of hope on paper attached to a collective tree display. The activity became a reflective centerpiece of the outreach, emphasizing unity, compassion, and the importance of positive individual action within the community. This activity helped reinforce the children’s sense of dignity, resilience, and belonging—key elements in healing and personal development.

The initiative was conducted under the guidance of BAPS Program Chair Ms. Marianne Basoyang and Community Outreach and Extension Coordinator Mr. Norman Patiang, whose presence reinforced the institution’s commitment to socially responsive and globally engaged education. The team also donated school supplies such as pencils and soft toys, aiming to make the children feel valued and cared for in a safe, playful environment.
Beyond the recreational activities, the activity shows how different offices at the University of Baguio work together to promote UB’s objective to “advocate sustainable programs for the community and the environment.” At the core is UB Linkages’ strong partnership programs, bringing international engagement to the local scene. It also promotes UB S.E.R.V.E.S, which highlights service to the community, and responds to the attainment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, SDG 5: Gender Equality, SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, and SDG 17: Partnership for the Goals.
At the same time, embodying the BAPS Program Educational Objective to “demonstrate responsible citizenship and render extension services initiating community development programs and alternatives to address the human, social, and environmental challenges.” By bringing together students from different cultural backgrounds in the service of vulnerable sectors, the activity underscored the value of inclusive learning experiences and international cooperation in community development.
The collaboration between KKU and UB Political Science students reflects the growing importance of academic partnerships that extend beyond classrooms and into meaningful public service. Through initiatives such as this, students are not only exposed to diverse cultures and perspectives but are also encouraged to become active contributors to social transformation. By linking academic training with on-the-ground service, UBBAPS and KKUCOLA continue to model how youth and institutions can contribute to child protection and social wellbeing in the Philippines.
