A total of 40 Emergency Response Team personnel attended the First Aid Training with Basic Life Support that was held on May 6-7, 2025 (Batch 1 and Batch 2). The training aimed to equip participants with essential first aid skills and knowledge to respond effectively in emergency situations.
The First Aid Training with Basic Life Support is crucial for the University of Baguio Emergency Response Team as it enhances their capacity to handle medical emergencies on campus. By acquiring these skills, team members are better prepared to provide immediate care to individuals experiencing health crises, which can potentially save lives. The training emphasizes the importance of quick and effective response by recognizing the signs and symptoms of various medical conditions, and applying first aid techniques correctly.

The training was conducted by experienced trainers from Move R87, an organization specializing in emergency response and safety education. With their expertise, participants were able to learn not just the theory behind life-saving practices but also their real-world applications through hands-on exercises and simulations. This practical approach allowed the UB-ERT personnel to build confidence, improve teamwork, and sharpen decision-making skills that are crucial in crisis scenarios.
Beyond skills development, the activity reinforced the University of Baguio’s commitment to providing a safe and secure environment for its students, staff, and the larger community. By ensuring that its Emergency Response Team undergoes regular capacity-building activities, the university demonstrates its proactive stance on health, safety, and resilience.
This initiative also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
- SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being – by improving the ability of emergency responders to deliver immediate and effective medical care, ultimately saving lives and reducing health risks.
- SDG 4: Quality Education – by fostering capacity-building and competency among UB-ERT personnel, ensuring that continuous learning and professional growth remain central to their roles.
- SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities – by promoting resilience and preparedness within UB and its surrounding communities, helping create safer environments that can effectively manage crises.
Through initiatives like the First Aid Training with BLS, the University of Baguio continues to champion health, safety, and sustainability. By empowering its Emergency Response Team with knowledge and life-saving skills, the university not only safeguards its own community but also contributes to the wider goal of building resilient and well-prepared societies.
