The annual Intramurals of the University of Baguio for the academic year 2023-2024 was a challenging but exhilarating journey for the School of Business Administration and Accountancy. Each participant left a lasting impression on the field, highlighting the SBAA’s future growth in extracurricular activities.
Starting off, the “Hariwatas,” representing the SBAA Bleachers Cheering last October 5, 2023, secured the top spot in the competition, outperforming various other schools thanks to their synchronized and thrilling performance. They also secured their victory as Cheering Booth Champions with the help of the student council and other members of different SBAA-based organizations. These achievements set the tone for the first leg and the rest of the Intramurals. Following this win, the volleyball team placed 4th in the second leg held at Cardinal’s Gym from February 19 to March 14, 2024. The team had a rough and rocky start. Still, after finding their own pace and working as a team, they were finally able to emerge victorious from the various school competitors. Their victory left a mark on the SBAA as one of the schools to beat in the volleyball arena and a team to watch out for in the next few upcoming Intramurals.
The SBAA not only won in outdoor sports but also in board games, and chess was one of their strengths. The team, consisting of four intelligent male players and one superior female player, managed to advance the competition and secure a place in the winner’s circle. They sacrificed all their pieces, and the chessboard was the battlefield of their wits and intellect. Held on April 13, 2024, the team placed 2nd with multi-phase planning skills and resilience to recover from setbacks.

Several other sports were played during Intramurals, and the SBAA was one of the active competitors. Both men’s and women’s basketball teams, women’s volleyball, badminton, and table tennis teams could not secure a place but they have actively fought and established themselves as competitive athletes, showcasing their hard work and skills and displaying their best interest with the sports that they have chosen. The Mobile Legends team, Billiards team, and Darts team also missed the opportunity to secure a spot, but their defeat taught them valuable lessons about coordination, strategies, and precision as well as identifying strengths to maintain in their skills. Their defeat in the match is seen as a chance for development.

Even though the outcome of some sports events did not favor SBAA, these losses paved the way for the athletes to know how to hone and improve their abilities. Their losses symbolize more than just defeat. Each setback serves as a stepping stone toward their personal growth, resilience, and pursuit of excellence. Despite not being able to grab a seat in the throne of winners, they were still able to put a smile on their faces and look forward to giving it another shot for themselves and the Business Administration and Accountancy community as well. As with any other competitions, not everyone can win everything. However, their willingness to represent the school and their resilience despite many setbacks is something that is admirable and should be commended.
Accompanied by sufficient training and preparation, these accomplishments will serve as a motivation for everyone to provide excellent performances for the next Intramurals to come, continuously contributing to the legacy of School of Business Administration and Accountancy as one of the top-performing schools in the University. This year may not be the luckiest, but it will be a symbol of the emerging winning streak of the school for outdoor and indoor sports.
