Project GrOOM ME Continues with Batch 3 Greening Efforts

The University of Baguio is one of the advocates of the United Nations’ quest to attain the 17 Sustainable Development Goals that was launched in 2015. The University of Baguio strives to initiate and take action towards attaining its objective of promoting sustainable development programs, specifically the attainment of “SDG 13: Climate Action” and “SDG 15: Life on Land”. Relative to this, the Research Innovation Extension and Community Outreach (RIECO) organized a three-year greening project titled “GROOM ME (Greening, Optimizing, Orchestrating and Magnifying Mother Earth) PROJECT YEAR 1”. This project consisted of four (4) batches involving the employees and students of the University.

This Greening activity occurred at Busol Watershed, Baguio City, the adopted park of the University of Baguio. To formally open and start the three-year greening project, a Weeding activity was attended and participated by the University of Baguio’s Student Leaders (SSC & SB Officers) and Student Marshals last October 7, 2023. Followed by the 2nd batch, which was participated by the UB Management Team led by the University President, ENGR. Javier Herminio D. Baustista and the Director of RIECO, DR. Donnavila Marie B. Panday. The Activity conducted was a Fencing activity last October 13, 2023, and aimed to guard the saplings planted by the University of Baguio at Busol Watershed.

Lastly, a weeding and a continuation of the fencing activity was implemented by the School of Information Technology (SIT) in collaboration with the School of Business Administration and Accountancy (SBAA) and the School of Engineering and Architecture (SEA). This Activity was previously conducted last October 14, 2023. It was participated by the University of Baguio’s Faculty members from the three Schools mentioned above, Non-teaching personnel from the Finance Department, and the University Students.
